I’ll describe a great example that my colleagues and I have experienced before. A couple of years ago, four large institutions timed their thesis deadlines on the same day. This day was the Tuesday after Easter, at 12 noon.

Why pre-order your thesis binding cover?

It is always talked about a lot, and more and more people are doing it. If you are not done writing your thesis, you can order the cover. You probably already know what to write on the cover, what are some of the things your school expects.

On the day mentioned above, as a significant proportion of customers leave the knitting to the last minute, there were already 15-20 young people at the door at the opening at 8am. Shortly after the opening, the shop was practically swarmed with people wanting immediate thesis binding.

Capacity quickly ran out, and although we were prepared for the onslaught, with six of us working to cope with several days’ worth of simultaneous arrivals, we could only promise completion by 6-7pm after 10am,

The shelf waiting to be bound had 40-50 materials waiting in a row. The situation paralysed the trade all over the city at that time, around 11 o’clock we spoke to several competing shops on the phone to see if anyone could still do immediate binding, -we could not deliver that day- and without exception we received the answer that they had “sunk” 1-2 hours ago, they had no capacity.

In hindsight, we hope that everyone managed to get out in front of their teacher and school and that no one had any major problems with the chaos caused by the coordinated drop-off and the long weekend trips home.

This can happen again at any time, but the inconvenience can be avoided!

You should know that the most time-consuming part of the thesis binding is the leather cover. The lettering on the cover is laid out from copper letter templates, letter by letter.

Of course, if the person is registered as Ó Pál, and all you need to write on the cover is a year and the word “PROFESSIONAL”, then no problem, but if you are studying at the College of General Business, International Relations and your name is Anastasia Karolina Monostorapáti, then your cover may take a while to make.

And if all your fellow graduates arrive at the same time, it may take two or three hours to get your cover. This can be a problem half an hour before the deadline.

So, if you order your cover sheet well in advance, even weeks before the deadline, it can come at the last minute, as it only takes 1-2 minutes to get the cover sheet ready after printing. And printers are plentiful, so you don’t have to wait long.
