In this article, we try to summarise what should/should not be gilded on the cover page of the thesis. A significant number of graduates often start their thesis without knowing what they want on the cover because the shop will tell them anyway:) We would like to help them with this and give them some clarity.
What should be on the cover of the thesis?
What are the technical options for thesis binding?
Some people think that what looks and feels good in a Word document can be done on the cover page. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. In the embossing template we use, there are basically two font sizes. The larger font size is used to write the name of the material, such as:
-THESIS, DIPLOMA, DIPLOMA WORK, etc.
At this font size, the set contains only capital letters, as shown on the font. This font size corresponds to a font size of approximately 38 Times New Roman in Word.
The smaller font size has both lowercase and UPPERcase, all other text on the cover will be laid out with this font size. The smaller font set corresponds to a Times New Roman font size of about 25 in Word.
The number of characters you can put on a line is between 32 and 38, depending on the width of the letters, for example, if there are many M’s on a line, there are fewer, while if there are many i’s, i’s, l’s, t’s, there are more characters.
What goes on the cover in the vast majority of cases?
In almost all cases, in addition to the type of thesis, the name of the author, the year of writing and, in some cases, the place of writing must be indicated.
Your school is free to choose, but in addition to these details you can also include other information, for example, in the case of Zsigmond Király College you should always write the name of the school and the student’s code on the cover, while for the Faculty of Law of Pázmány Péter Catholic University you only need to write the name and the year.
The cover page is not to be confused with the inside cover, which is usually used to indicate, for example, the department, the name of the consultant or the title of the work. In the vast majority of cases these do not need to be gilded on the cover.
The best way to be sure is to check your school’s website or ask the person in charge what the local requirements are.
In response to the question “what do they do?” we in the business cannot give a confident answer.
In some cases, the school may ask you to write the title of the essay on the cover page. If the title is extremely long, there may be too much writing. Optimally, the cover will technically fit 16-17 lines, including spaces, but care should be taken not to exceed this.
